Prime Minister Edi Rama is in Puglia, Italy on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the exodus of Albanians to the neighboring country, where he is holding a conference with Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio and the head of the Puglia Region, Michele Emiliano.
The head of the Puglia Region, Michele Emiliano, presented Rama with the “Pulia Root” award, emphasizing that it is given only to Puglias, but he called Rama a Puglia with Albanian citizenship.
Emiliano recalled the landing of the ship in Brindisi and the help that the Italians offered to the Albanians, even though they did not know them.
“We never said one thing, we did another. All the time we promised each other commitment and solidarity, we did it. That morning I was in Brindisi, working as a prosecutor magistrate and came down from home to go to the office but could not walk, I was surrounded by people celebrating who had come from a difficult journey. Residents took from their homes any food they found and gave it to them without knowing them. I remember going to Tirana for the first time for a very important judicial act for a police check and I came with an escort and Tirana looked like a post-war city, there were also traces of the trauma it had suffered. Seeing Skanderbeg Square or the headquarters to verify the changes is really exciting. The color scheme has gone down in history in Albania. I felt close to you when you did what you could do when you helped us during the pandemic, I felt close to you when we discussed, I feel like a chicken, you feel part of this community as we feel Albania as part of our country. It is a small surprise but not so small because it is an award, we will give it to a Puglia who has Albanian citizenship, this award is called “Pulia Root”, thanks to the friendship, mutual respect. It is a bit big as a volume but it will fit you with the length “, said Emiliano.
