A German court has sentenced a German citizen to life in prison for killing a two-year-old child in a kindergarten in the town of Firzen, where she worked last year.
The regional court in Monchengladbach on Friday sentenced Sandra M., whose last name was not made public due to privacy. The judges concluded that the accused pressed the chest of the two-year-old girl and prevented her from breathing. The child, identified in court only as Greta, died at the hospital two weeks later.
During the trial, the court heard testimony from other children who said the accused had physically abused them. The accused German citizen had previously been released from other kindergartens. She denied the murder case and her lawyers said they intended to appeal the decision. Under German law, she has the right to seek early release after 15 years.
