During his visit to Kosovo yesterday afternoon, the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, was awarded the “Key to the City” by the Mayor of the Municipality of Pristina, Përparim Rama.
The mayors of the two municipalities also discussed joint projects and the support of various cultural activities, which bring Tirana and Pristina even closer.
The Mayor of Prishtina, Përparim Rama emphasized that Tirana is a model of transformation into a contemporary city. “Tirana has been transformed into a city for citizens through the vision that Erion has as a contemporary mayor. He has brought a new spirit with the transformation of “Skënderbej” square, which I like immensely, and won the European prize for public spaces. In addition, it has done various other projects such as the addition of bicycle lanes, to show that our cities also stimulate alternative transport, like other European cities. Also, a large number of infrastructural projects have been carried out, which made it possible to facilitate the movement of citizens. All these have transformed the city into a contemporary place, with great potential, with a large number of tourists,” he said.
Mayor Veliaj said that he feels honored for the “Key to the City of Pristina” and was proud of Kosovo’s achievements. He emphasized that the vote should not be used as an instrument of populism, but added that those who lead and deal with politics have a mission to unite and square divisions. “I feel very privileged and humbled for “The Key of Pristina”. I consider it a second home, my heart becomes a mountain for every success and for every progress. I believe that whoever leads and deals with politics has the mission of uniting and bringing people together, to bridge the divides. Undoubtedly, politics is important, we all want to get votes, but not votes at any price and not votes with any instrument of populism. I believe that we both have a mission, as mayors of our cities, to set the first example of brotherhood, of friendship, and to remind our people that there are many things that unite us. There may be differences – in democracy we agree to disagree – but the things that unite us are extraordinary. We are one blood, we are one language, so I believe this is the long-term policy”, emphasized Veliaj.
The Municipality of Tirana will support the well-known festival DokuFest, which is held in Prizren and has already become a tradition. “I am glad that the Municipality of Tirana this year will also be involved in helping the “Doku Fest” in Prizren and the “PriFest” of our late friend Vjosa Berisha. I am glad that today Pristina is really a European city”, declared the mayor Veliaj.
DokuFest is among 29 festivals from all over Europe.
