A starving polar bear approached a community of people in Siberia begging for help after its tongue got stuck in the can it was trying to eat from.
The desperate animal is seen in rare video approaching homes in the Arctic community for help, with its tongue stuck inside a can of condensed milk.
The desperate footage was recorded by a resident who was standing at the entrance of his house in the town of Dickson, in northern Russia.
The recorder says: “The bear was very tired and came to us sticking out its tongue, but it was impossible without causing further injuries and the people gave up.”
Most likely the bear had found the can in the garbage while looking for food and then came to the village to ask for help.
Experts say polar bears never approach humans unless they are desperate for food.
A group of veterinarians had headed to the bear’s location but faced bad weather to reach the village to rescue the bear.
Svetlana Akulova, of the Moscow Zoo, said: “We plan to euthanize the polar bear and remove it from the community. We have also prepared 50 kg of fish to help him recover afterwards”.
Her colleague Svetlana Radionova said the bear looked “on the brink of death.”
She added: “We have found the specialists who will go to the place of the predator with problems. To remove the can we will have to immobilize it. We will do everything possible to save him”.
Dickson is one of the northernmost colonies in the world, named after Swedish explorer Baron Oscar Dickson, and has a population of just 676 people.
