The next “Open Cinema” event has returned to Gjirokastra. The event, which comes for the fourth year in a row, was opened in the new part of the city by the producer and cinematographer Skënder Jaçe.
During three nights, the magic of cinema is bringing nostalgia, retrospective, rare images of Gjirokastra from 1948 until the last films of Albanian cinema.
Open Cinema is showing a package of cartoons for children as well as being accompanied by well-known names of Albanian music over the years such as Irma Libohova, Liljana Kondakçi and Kozma Dushi.
The event is also commemorating the contributions of directors and actors who are no longer alive.
The cinema has an almost century-old tradition in Gjirokastër, since 1927. The city became the shooting location for some of the most important Albanian and foreign films.
The researcher and actor Ilir Lluri says that education through the cinema screen should continue both in winter and in summer as an opportunity that gives another dynamic to cultural life.
As part of the traveling cinema, films with contemporary dramas such as the film “The Road” that opened the event, but also comedies and action films such as “Sun in the Rain” or “Umbria” have been shown.
