One day after Albania held the first intergovernmental meeting with the EU – in the premises of the prime minister in the presence of diplomats, heads of institutions including religious clergy, the EU flag was raised.
“The raising of this flag today at the headquarters of the prime minister marks the rise of Albania to another level, not only in relations with the European Union but also with its future with institutions, freedoms and rights, security and its development in every direction. This moment also marks the rise to another level of the obligations of the relations of the Albanian society and citizen with the values, principles, standards, rules and spirit of European democratic coexistence”said Edi Rama.
After saying that at this moment he would very much like to be the opposition of the country, Prime Minister Edi Rama emphasized the need for a new level of relations between the government and the opposition.
“Well, today, the opposition is in a big gap between a part identified with everything that contradicts the spirit and logic of the European Union’s relations with Albania, from significant corruption to the undermining of democracy, and another part, which differs from the first one only for the fact that it has not been branded as undesirable for our international partners and the latter, even when invited, do not come because they are afraid of the former. So, for now, we will do as we have always done because we cannot do anything else even if we want to”Rama said.
Raising the EU flag in the government building for Prime Minister Edi Rama increases the burden of obligations on the governing majority and especially on the government.
