ISHMT blocks 147 kg of plastic bags, as part of the initiative to ban single-use plastic bags.
The State Market Surveillance Inspectorate (ISHMT) following the controls for the implementation of the decision of the Council of Ministers no. 367/2022 “On the prohibition of the use of plastic carrier bags and oxo-degradable and oxo-bio degradable bags”, blocked 147 kg of plastic bags thinner than 70 microns.
ISHMT inspectors seized the entire amount of this product, as well as imposed an administrative measure of 500,000 (five hundred thousand) ALL on the subject.
ISHMT, as an implementing institution of the government’s initiative to remove plastic bags from use, appeals to all subjects to implement the legal obligations arising from the implementation of this VKM, as controls will be intensified throughout the country.
This decision determines that economic operators, as of June 1, are prohibited from using or offering plastic carrying bags with dimensions smaller than 50 cm in length and 24 cm in width (not including the width of the folds) with a carrying capacity of less than 10 kg. , with a thickness below 70 microns.
The changes in the law “On integrated waste management” for the prohibition of the use of single-use plastic bags, foresee penalties in case of non-compliance with this VKM.
In cases where the entities do not respect the requirements defined in the decision, ISHMT prohibits the trading of plastic bags, proceeds with sequestration and taking relevant measures.
Referring to the decision, any person who puts on the market, produces, imports or introduces into the territory of the Republic of Albania plastic carrying bags, as well as oxo-degradable or oxo-biodegradable plastic carrying bags, is punished with a fine in the amount of 500,000 (five hundred thousand) lek and the seizure of prohibited plastic bags.
In case it is established that the subject has been fined before, and the violation is repeated, the penalty is tripled, the goods are seized and the production permit/license can be revoked.
ISHMT focuses on the awareness of the subjects and informing them about the correct implementation of the law, while recalling the obligations arising from it, in the protection of consumers and fair competition.
