A vehicle was engulfed in flames this Wednesday morning on the Delvinë-Kardhić road axis and was completely burnt.
The driver of the vehicle, Sabah Shera, 43 years old, was traveling from Tirana to Saranda with his wife and two children, 8 and 11 years old. Only 300m from the exit of the Kardhiq-Delvin road tunnel, their vehicle was engulfed first by smoke and then by flames. They managed to get out of the vehicle in time with the help of their cousins who were traveling in another vehicle.
The 43-year-old’s wife said that they experienced moments of horror and that they were relieved to have saved their lives.
The firefighting teams that arrived to put out the fire were only able to neutralize the flames while the vehicle was completely burnt.
Traffic was blocked for about 30 minutes while an investigation was launched. The authorities suspect that the accident was related to the technical condition of the vehicle.
Sabah Shera had owned the vehicle for 7 months and claimed to the investigators that there had been no problems before.
The fire is suspected to be accidental as a result of a technical defect, where there is only material damage.
The investigative team is at the scene and is working to fully clarify the incident.
