People with disabilities are facing a difficult economic-social situation especially this year, when the economic crisis has affected more than anyone this social category that feels discriminated and without support.
Organized in the “Hope for the Blind” association, a group of disabled people and their families protested on Monday morning in front of the municipality of Durrës to denounce the lack of financial support from this municipality in this difficult time.
“We protest in front of the Durrës municipality to denounce this municipality for non-payment of electricity compensation since January 2022. It has been 7 months since the blind have not received this compensation. We have repeatedly asked for a meeting, but the mayor has not deigned to receive us. By law, this compensation must be paid every month. We also denounce the non-granting of the electricity supplement that has been for our area since 2015. We have also addressed the discrimination commissioner. We have many other problems.”
The protesters demanded what is due to them, but also information and transparency from the municipality of Durrës.
“We have made a request to the mayor for the denied differences 2005-2010. We asked the social service of the municipality of Durrës and the mayor for a payment list for this, but they show us the court and discriminate against us in the right to information. In every state institution, we are discriminated against and treated as rags, as worthless”.
If they do not receive an answer, the blind warned that they will continue to protest for their rights and the benefit of compensation and allowances denied until now.
