Franco Albrecht plotted against German politicians whom he blamed for the “disintegration of German society”.
The far-right German soldier was found guilty today of planning attacks on politicians as he fled Syria.
The regional court of Frankfurt today sentenced 33-year-old Franco Albrecht to five and a half years in prison for “serious and violent acts of subversion”, violation of the law on weapons and explosives and two counts of fraud.
The lieutenant of the Franco-German brigade had previously been accused of “extremist, ethnic-nationalist” beliefs and had complained about the deliberate “disintegration” of the German nation by politicians, referring to the campaign to accept foreign refugees since 2015.
Albrecht was arrested in 2017 after he was caught taking a loaded handgun into a deposit at Vienna airport.
He had graduated from the prestigious Saint-Cyr military academy but managed to register as a Syrian refugee in the country under the false identity of David Benjamin, and gained refugee status in the Bavarian town of Erding.
Albrecht has previously said he did it “to show how weak and biased the domestic immigration system is to accept refugees,” but authorities say he planned terrorist attacks on political figures.
The name of German “Green” politician Claudia Roth, currently minister of culture, was found written in Albrecht’s diary, as was the name and address of well-known German anti-racism activist Anetta Kahane.
Among his possessions was found a copy of Adolf Hitler’s book, Mein Kampf, in which he described immigration as a form of “genocide for the host people”.
During the search of his home, German police found 21 mobile phones, 50 prepaid mobile cards, five machetes and a forged vaccination certificate.
Three firearms purchased by the subject have not been recovered.
The accused is the son of a German mother and Italian immigrant husband, who are no longer together.
He has often expressed his radical views, declaring that immigration to Germany is ‘a form of genocide’.
The soldier further sought to expose the country’s immigration system as a security risk, removing as refugees applied for asylum in his own country.
And actually passing as a Christian fruit seller from Damascus, he was registered by the authorities as ‘David Benjamin’, although he could not speak Arabic at all.
He received a place in a refugee shelter and monthly assistance of 409 euros, before returning to his barracks in Illkirch near the French border.
His dual identity was revealed in 2017 when he was arrested while trying to retrieve a Nazi-era pistol he had hidden at Vienna airport.
