The Prime Minister of Montenegro, Dritan Abazovic, said on Thursday evening that he is ready to resign.
Local media write that the statement came as Abazovic commented on the announcement of the Democratic Party of Montenegro, which previously said that he should resign after the election of the judicial bodies.
According to them, the party of Aleksa Becic thinks that the best thing for Montenegro would be for Abazovic to resign from the post of the head of the 43rd Government after the election of the judicial bodies.
Abazovic said that in principle he supports the position which called on the Assembly not to consider possible initiatives for shortening the mandate before four members of the Judicial Council and at least one judge of the Constitutional Court are elected.
“We should all have a broader consensus on unblocking the judiciary, the Constitutional Court,… Let’s all contribute to this and say: ‘OK, we are going for new elections, government, redesign or some other model’. But before that, let’s do a joint job. If my fellow Democrats, if I interpreted the announcement correctly, if there is any way… I am ready to resign“, Abazović is quoted as saying to TV “Vijesti”.
Abazovic’s government was recently left without the support of the majority in the parliament, the leadership of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) announced that the Government has lost the support of this party due to, as they judged, “abandoning the European agenda”. Abazovic has been criticized the most for accepting the signing of the state contract with the Serbian Orthodox Church.
