Clashes broke out today between Israeli soldiers and protesters demonstrating against attacks by Israeli settlers on residents east of Ramallah, in the West Bank.
The protests come after attacks by Israeli settlers and several Palestinian residents were injured, in a situation that has worsened since May with the clashes in the Jerusalem mosque.
Protesters today threw stones and slingshots at the soldiers, who responded with tear gas and deafening canisters.
The development comes at a time when US President Joe Biden is visiting
Jerusalem for talks with Israeli leaders.
On Friday he will meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank.
Meanwhile, protests have become almost daily in the north of the West Bank where Israel continues to add new settlements although they are considered illegal by the international community.
The Israeli military protects new settlements in the north and has banned building and land ownership rights for Palestinians.
Israel has occupied the West Bank and Jerusalem since the 1967 war.
