We have no intention of leaving our lands to the Russians; Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov stated that his country is planning a “1 million man army” equipped with NATO weapons to retake territories occupied by Moscow’s forces.
Retaking the areas around the Black Sea coast are vital for the country’s economy, he stressed. The senior official’s statement came at a time when Russia is advancing in the Donbass region, the BBC says, and continues to attack other areas elsewhere in Ukraine.
In the interview given to The Times, Reznikov taught the idea that arms shipments to Ukraine need to be speeded up. The minister had praise especially for the United Kingdom, describing it as the key to the transition to provide Ukraine equipped with weapons from the Soviet period, new and much more efficient armaments, as well as air defense systems.
The brutality of the Russian offensive has not stopped. An attack on a block of flats recently killed 24 people – in Chasiv Yar, near the city of Kramatorsk, where rescue teams continue to search for survivors.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the attack on Chasiv Yar represents yet another possible war crime committed by the Russian occupation forces.
Ukrainian officials said Russian forces also attacked areas near the eastern city of Sloviansk on July 10 but were forced to retreat.
