Fashion industry is one of the sectors with the fastest development and growth during 2022 in the Albanian economy.
With the war in Ukraine, the Western Balkans has become the epicenter of exports for textiles, as European companies have transferred business to the country.
According to the representatives of the association, to cope with the demand for months, local force is being sought, which is not being found. Salary is not a reason according to them
“In the last year, we increased salaries by 15-20% in our sector. The average net salary has reached 38 00 ALL, which is considered reasonable for the unqualified sector. It should also be said that Albania benefits only from the sewing part, it does not have the entire complete cycle and the main part of the profit remains with our client. We are trying to invest in technology to make a closed cycle in textiles.”
Under these conditions, the fashion industry has set its eyes on foreign workers, more specifically on the Asian market, since the working relationship with those from Bangladesh has not lasted.
“After we tried to get the Bangladeshis, that strategy failed, because they saw Albania as a springboard to other European countries. Under these conditions, we have begun to look at the Asian markets, more specifically the Philippines, and this experiment has been successful even though it is quite costly. “
According to statistics, there are approximately 8,000 foreign workers in the country, while the Ministry of the Interior has simplified the requirements for work permits for foreigners.
