A millionaire businessman lent an old street sweeper friend £200,000 but is unable to get his money back.
John Rankin Cornforth inherited his estate from his late father. He gave Simon Denyer hundreds of thousands of pounds between 2012 and 2014 as he dealt with his divorce proceedings. But the cleaner refuses to pay back the debt, ‘forcing’ his former friend to take him to court. Both of them knew each other since 1979.
As the trial continues, lawyers say there are no “written documents” to prove it was a loan, but Cornforth explained he didn’t ask for anything in writing as he had handed over the money in the belief that Denyer would pay it back.
We bring to your attention a curiosity. He worked in a meat factory, between hams and chops, for a figure of around 500 euros. A decent wage in Chile, where the minimum wage is 360 euros, but insufficient to satisfy any desire beyond survival.
At the end of every month, the worker anxiously awaited his salary, but his luck suddenly changed, when not one, not even two, but 330 monthly salaries were deposited into his almost empty bank account.
