The party of the SPD Parliamentary Group in Germany went awry when several women developed health problems, allegedly caused by a questionable substance they consumed during the event.
A 21-year-old woman presented to the hospital on Saturday evening, a few hours after the party, with dizziness and memory problems. The young woman confessed that she did not drink alcohol at the party, but ate food and consumed soft drinks. She was given blood tests, while four other women presented similar symptoms.
German media reports that the women are suspected to be victims of so-called “rape drugs”, which may have been thrown into drinks or food, while an investigation has been launched into the incident.
Around 1,000 people attended the Social Democrats’ annual party, including Chancellor Olaf Scholz, party lawmakers and their staff.
