A British teenager who had tweeted “I’m a Taliban and I’m going to blow up the plane” causing military security planes to take off during a holiday flight to Spain has been identified by authorities after his arrest.
18-year-old Aditya Verma, with his comments, caused a security reaction and the arrival of military shooters next to the passenger plane flying to the resort island of Menorca.
Verma himself was flying to the island with five of his friends to celebrate finishing school.
The talented teenager is also a chess master and has been offered a place at the university Cambridge University to study economic sciences.
So the brilliant pupil from south-east London was forced to spend two nights in a custody cell in Menorca before appearing in court and then being released on bail.
He is believed to still be on holiday on the island but his mother has now gone to be with him, perhaps to stop him from causing more trouble with his wild ideas.
The teenager justified that he was often jokingly called “Taliban” by his Asian friends, so he used the experience to stage a threat game.
A Spanish F-18 fighter jet was filmed escorting holidaymakers after the alarming message on social media and after landing passengers were forced to wait hours for checks.
