An unusual number of goals scored in the second league of the championship in Sierra Leone has caused the Federation of this country to open an investigation into match-fixing.
They won 95-0 against Lumbembu United, while they beat Koquima Lebanon 91-1. What raises even more shadows of suspicion regarding match-fixing is the fact that Kebanon scored 2 and 7 goals respectively in the first halves of both matches, thus inexplicably breaking out in the second half.
However, after the initiation of investigations, the results of both matches have become invalid pending a decision by the competent bodies. The president of the Federation of Sierra Leone, Thomas Daddy Brima, emphasized in an interview with BBC Sport Africa that they cannot stand idly by in front of such a situation.
“We cannot stand by and just watch this shameful situation, we must punish it. We will launch an immediate investigation and bring to justice all the perpetrators who are responsible for this mediocrity”, said President Thomas Daddy Brima./ Super Sport
