“We will try to relax as much as possible”, while in the east of Ukraine there is a fierce fight with the Russian invaders, many residents of Kiev try to return to normality, including summer vacations.
This time of year usually found Ivan Sukhanov and his family on the shores of the Black Sea. This year, they will not go further than the banks of the Dnieper River, but they will not remain without vacations.
“This year, we had planned to go to the Black Sea and then spend a few days outside the borders, in Turkey or Egypt, to do something interesting so that our son could see the pyramids of Egypt, touch a culture up close other. Those were the plans, but they didn’t turn out the way we thought. Now we will stay here in Kiev and its surroundings. In lakes, parks. We don’t go to the forest much because there is no security. But we want to calm down as much as we can”said Ivan Sukhanov, an engineer from Kiev.
“Usually, in the summer we went to Crimea, because we are from Crimea. But now even that path has become quite difficult since the annexation of Russia; they took it from us and we can’t go on vacation anymore”, said Vera Sapyga, a refugee from Crimea.
In the Ukrainian capital, there are plenty of sandy beaches, which are usually crowded with people in the hot summer months.
But on the first weekend of July, despite the high temperatures, they no longer sounded like they used to, as despite the desire for normality, the fear of war is always present in the lives of the residents, even though the alarm sirens no longer roar in Kiev.
