Iraqi Health Minister Hassan al-Tamimi has announced the launch of a vaccination campaign against the new COVID-19 coronavirus.
“Vaccinations will be distributed fairly and safely, and will reach all citizens free of charge”, said al-Tamimi.
He said the campaign will initially start with health workers. Earlier in the day, al-Tamimi said the ministry he heads received the first 50,000 votes cast by Chinese company Sinopharm.
On January 26, the Iraqi parliament announced it would buy 1.6 million doses from Pfizer and eight million from AstraZeneca.
Most recently, Iraq recorded 30 new deaths and 3,690 new infections from COVID-19. Also 3,517 other patients won the battle against coronavirus.
The total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country has reached 703,778, including 13,458 deaths and 643,156 cured.
