Very soon the farmers of the villages of Tirana can sell their products in the large food market in Farka.
This market will be public, with a minimum fee for small traders and under the administration of the Municipality of Tirana. The work on the construction of the market has started and the first phase of the works is almost finished.
Veliaj said that this provides a solution to the monopoly situation created in the food market, and traders from all areas around Tirana can sell their products at the prices they determine themselves. Also, consumers buy products at cheaper prices and better quality.
“For a very long time, even longer than necessary, we had a monopoly in the wholesale market, where the biggest profit was neither the producer nor the consumer, but the middleman – that is, the one who owned the market in Kashar , who as a middleman was earning without doing any big work. Meanwhile, we want the farmer to win, making the market entry fee almost negligible, but also the consumer, who will buy the products at a lower price. In this way, we eliminate the role of the middleman, who billed every box and every kilogram that enters the wholesale market”said Veliaj.
According to him, the new market, which is a joint investment between the Municipality of Tirana and the Ministry of Agriculture, will be open every weekend for citizens who want to make supplies for the week.
“On the big platforms, the majority market will work, while in the central part – according to the model we have seen in Verona and Bologna, – the minority market will work, or as it is called the peasant market, which will be open mainly in weekend. Every citizen can come, park the car and stock up for the week. Whereas, those who have a restaurant or a family business, have the opportunity to perform both services, both wholesale and retail”explained Veliaj.
The mayor said that this is a solution for the entire valley of Erzen, starting from Krraba, Petrela, the area of Farka and the surrounding villages, with Iba, Mullet, Lundra, then continuing in the direction of Baldushku, Vaqarri and Ndroqi.
