A Croatian tourist yacht sends out the SOS signal, rescue operation in the Adriatic.
At 20:20 on Friday, the Captaincy of the port of Durrës received a call from the 33-meter yacht with the Croatian flag D’artista 07, which was located about 20 miles from Divjaka.
Those on board called for help as night fell over the Adriatic when the yacht ran into engine trouble. The General Maritime Directorate in Durrës informs that upon receiving the notification that the yacht’s engine was not working and the lives of at least 3 people on board were in danger immediately, based on the Maritime Code, the port captain ordered assistance for the vehicle boaters and persons at risk of drowning.
The captain’s office notified the ships that were sailing closer to the yacht to give him quick assistance. While traveling from Italy to the port of Durrës, the captain of the container ship “The Spirit of Chennai” answered the call.
This Portuguese-flagged vessel has moored the yacht in distress D’artista 07 and is towing it towards the port of Durrës. According to the DPD, the quick reaction of the captaincy of the port of Durrës and the captain of the container ship Miletic Srdan ended the nightmare of the crew of the yacht in danger by saving him and the vessel, as well as proving the solidarity of the people and the authorities of the sea in cases of danger.
