Another sports environment returns to the citizens of Tirana. The swimming pool park at the Lake Dam has been completely transformed in a few days and today hosted the first competition of the swimming championship.
After more than 20 years of private administration, the swimming pool complex is now under the administration of the Municipality of Tirana, transforming into a point of attendance for citizens and children. The mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, expressed his happiness for the development of the first swimming competition and added that these spaces are available both for young swimmers and for the community.
“Here we have a space for the best swimmers. But, we also have a relaxing space for families, as well as a camp for children, who come from families with economic problems, who cannot go to the beach, but have the opportunity to visit Tirana’s swimming pools, to spend some beautiful summer memories . Where there’s a will, there’s a way to make everyone happy. Today I am very proud that we are starting a new chapter for swimming”, said Veliaj.
He said he is glad that the swimming team will have a space dedicated specifically to them and that political opponents can delay the progress of the works in the city, but they cannot prevent the development.
“With the swimming team, we had a long-term dream after the end of the 20-year contract of the administrators of this space. I’m sorry to say it, but like any effort in Albania, with a lot of sacrifice, everything turns into a mountain of courts and misunderstandings. This country would be better if we had a little understanding. When a school like the ‘Sami Frashëri’ gymnasium is built, politics should not interfere. When a space is vacated, as the 7 Dwarfs were, to make a parking lot downstairs and a playground upstairs, politics should not mix. When the swimming pools are freed, be they Olympic pools, be they pools for amateurs and children, politics should not mix here either”, Veliaj underlined.
In the end, the head of the Municipality said that this will be a new chapter for swimming in Albania. “I can’t wait to open this new chapter for swimming, where we offer the conditions, the opportunities, the finances, the services, and then leave it to the chunas and the oysters to honor us with medals. I’m very glad that most of the medals, at least in this battery, were taken by the teams coming from other cities, such as Durrës and Saranda”, concluded Veliaj.
