The first three water supply and sewerage companies have been established in the framework of the deep reform of the water sector.
These are Durrës, Korça and Pogradec. In total the water supply will be collected in 15 companies across the country. The Minister of Infrastructure Belinda Balluku also listed the criteria that will be followed for their establishment.
“We have made an analysis on the criteria and there are 3 main ones and it has to do with geographical proximity, water resources where they are and how they are distributed and a criterion that has to do with the number of subscribers. Not less than 25 thousand subscribers for an aggregated company “, says Belinda Balluku, Minister of Infrastructure.
These interventions stated Minister Balluku will ‘shake’ the sector but aim to improve the quality of service to citizens.
“Another problem that we have identified during the analysis and that is resolved with the reform is the issue of investments. Investments will be complete starting from the warehouse, distribution network and up to the installation of meters for each subscriber. Now begins the anxiety of what will happen to employees etc. Nothing will happen except the fact that transformations have an initial cost in terms of shaking the system. “Shakes are never pleasant because inertia makes us adapt to the situation.”
Water supply problems and their low performance over the years have led the state to take control of them by owning 51% of the shares.
