“The three-year project aims to mentor innovative enterprises from the six Western Balkan countries to produce and sell their products across national borders. They are businesses, start-ups, based on new technologies in various fields, such as the use of innovative technologies in tourism, energy, land quality measurement, for farmers to increase their production, etc. ” – says for DW, Arjan Ymeri, Executive Director of the Innovation Center, “Office” in Tirana.
The goal of the program is to increase the culture for entrepreneurship and support innovative businesses that are growing very fast. In the round of Tirana participated about 60 participants in 15 teams, aged 27-45 years.
Capacity transfer to innovative regional enterprises
The regional project “Growth Camp” started two years ago and in the conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic was developed online. For the first time, young men and women who have innovative ventures in the region met and met personally in the round held these days in Tirana. “I am very happy that we finally held a real round of the ‘Growth Camp’ in Tirana, with the physical presence of the participants after two years of virtual rounds due to the pandemic”, said Frosina Ilieska, GIZ Manager for the office of Regional Open Fund, Skopje.
Mentoring to increase production and sales across national borders of innovative business products is carried out by the Dutch company TNWe specializing in the field of technical preparation of innovative new ventures. “Innovative new ventures in the Western Balkans have made a lot of progress in recent years. This is evident in the activities we have carried out in the region. I think young men and women who have started innovative ventures are very ambitious and technically talented. “But their experience in business development is limited as the Western Balkans itself is at such a stage of development in general. But it is important that entrepreneurs from this region progress every year”, said for DW, Ana Vazquez Romero, expert and TNW.
Continue support for selected youth
The program aims to accelerate the acquisition of knowledge for the growth of innovative businesses in the Western Balkans through capacity transfer. In the round held in Tirana, participants had the opportunity to get to know each other, exchange ideas for their businesses and create opportunities for cooperation and complementary ideas, very beneficial in terms of lack of capacity in each of the six countries in the region.
“Teams from the region should be more open to cooperate not only with each other but also with partners from Europe. They need to emerge as soon as possible from local, regional to European markets and increase the capacity to build a network of investors and organizations. We hope to continue their development in the future as well as to cooperate with governments and other support organizations “, says for DW, Ana Vazquez Romero, TNW expert.
During the rounds of “Growth Camp” participants are given knowledge on how to increase funding, how to look for new markets, where they can get credit for the development of their businesses. Those who achieve high results during the first round are selected to develop a further program of a higher level, where each of them is assisted individually and not in groups to achieve objectives in the production of products with innovative technologies and for selling them./DW
