More than 6000 people gathered to watch the sunrise in Stonehenge for the summer solstice.
It is the first time since the pandemic started that the stone circles in Salisbury and Avebury have been opened to the public for this event.

Stonehenge is built on the stretch of sunrise between summer and sunset in the middle of winter.
In the summer solstice, the sun rises behind the heel stone, the ancient entrance to the stone circle and the rays of sunlight are channeled to the center of the monument. The Sarsen bridges were placed in the center of the country around 2500 BC. They lined up carefully to line up with the sun’s movements.
