Hollywood actor and goodwill ambassador of the United Nations, Ben Stiller has considered the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky as his hero, during a visit to Kiev.
“What you have done, the way you have mobilized the state, the world, is really inspiring,” said the 56-year-old American star, referring to Zelensky’s speeches before parliaments around the world.
“It’s a great honor for me… you are my hero,” said Stiller, who was appointed UN Goodwill Ambassador in 2018.
His visit to Kiev and meeting with Zelensky took place on World Refugee Day.
Zelensky and Stiller discussed the needs of people temporarily displaced in Ukraine and Poland, whom Stiller visited before meeting Zelenskyn.
During his visit, Stiller also visited the Irpin neighborhoods, where fierce fighting took place in the early days of the war.
“I think it is difficult to understand what is happening here, if you have not been personally in these premises,” he told Zelensky.
The two also talked about their careers as comedians.
“You have given up a great acting career,” Stiller told Zelensky.
“Not as good as yours,” Zelensky replied.
Before winning the presidential election in 2019, Zelensky is best known for the role he played in a TV series, where he played the role of a teacher in a high school.
