About 30 flights with up to 5,000 passengers have been canceled at London Heathrow Airport due to technical problems with luggage.
The airport asked airlines to cut 10% of scheduled flights to terminals two and three on Monday. The state of chaos comes after problems in the baggage recovery areas, which have been collected at one place in the airport lounge.
Tens of thousands of passengers have been affected by airport shutdowns and flight cancellations in recent weeks. The BBC says some airlines may be able to combine flights on Heathrow which means some passengers will not be delaying their travels.
Heathrow said reducing the number of flights would “minimize” the impact of technical issues affecting luggage systems. Hundreds of flights across the UK were canceled during Platinum Jubilee week and concerns have been raised about further travel problems over the summer.
The outage was caused by several factors, but the lack of staff has made the aviation industry struggle to cope with the growing demand.
