The world’s largest gambling center, Macao kicked off the second day of massive COVID-19 testing after dozens of added cases were discovered over the weekend.
This situation led to the closure of many businesses, but the opposite has happened with casinos remaining open.
The testing of the nearly 600,000 inhabitants of the Chinese city is expected to be completed on Tuesday, while a strict regime is being followed to prevent mass infections again.
Despite the fact that after eight months with no infection, this Monday has marked an increase in cases affected with Covid by casinos.
According to CNN, city officials have begun closing schools, tourist attractions, cultural facilities and all non-core businesses, while restaurants have been ordered to suspend services.
Casinos have been allowed to stay open, however analysts say the increase in cases may not keep them open for long.
These restrictions have threatened Macau’s economy, which depends on millions of visitors coming from different countries.
The fact that this city supports the economy in casinos, has made the government keep them open until a second decision.
