The High Representative of the European Union, Joseph Borrell, and the EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, were asked during the conference about the purchase of votes in our country and the pre-election situation.
Regarding the purchase of votes in the elections, Minister Borrelli said that Prime Minister Rama was encouraged to implement the recommendations of the OSCE-ODIHR and the Venice Commission.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Varhelyi stressed the importance of implementing on the ground what has been achieved by the political forces in Albania. He said that regarding the level of corruption and the relevant agencies that fight it, “Albania is making steady progress”, but asked for more results on the ground.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Edi Rama described as unbelievable a statement, the fact that no person who bought the votes has been punished. The head of government stated that there are 20 people from all parties, followed by the prosecution, for vote buying.
Rama: To hear in my language such an unbelievable statement that no one has been investigated nothing has happened regarding the cases of suspected vote buying while there are 20 people being prosecuted and are in the process. 20 people suspected of buying votes from all parties. “So it is impressive to see this lazy activism expressing itself in this high EU temple, but that is the way it is.”
