Kosovo is wasting time with its rejection of the “Open Balkans” initiative, says the Deputy Speaker of the Kosovo Assembly, Enver Hoxhaj.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti and other politicians in Kosovo continue to oppose “Open Balkan”, part of which is Serbia, which has not yet recognized Kosovo’s independence. But, according to Hoxhaj, it is not foreign policy, but the problems of domestic politics in Kosovo that are preventing it from becoming part of the initiative:
“I think that Kosovo is wasting time, without need, without political or economic argument, saying no to ‘Open Balkan’! I am in favor of participating in the ‘Open Balkans’. This is my personal position as Deputy Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, as a member of the Democratic Party of Kosovo. The PDK, meanwhile, has no stance.
From 2011 to 2017, I asked Kosovo to be part of every organization, regional initiative. I want to say it here so that Albanian citizens know wherever they live. In 2020, Kosovo signed an agreement in Washington with President Donald Trump. Did you know that in the fifth or sixth paragraph of this agreement, it is written that Kosovo pledges to join the minishengen established in October 2019? It means that formally, Kosovo is part of this agreement. It was signed by Avdullah Hoti “.
The former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo, in the interview for the show “Top Talk”, says that he does not see any real threat regarding Serbian exports to Kosovo.
“I see the Albanian factor in the Balkans as the German factor in Europe. Why should there be fear, if Rama is in the meeting, so is Abazovic. “I think it is domestic policy in Kosovo, while the ‘Open Balkans’ should be taken seriously,” he said.
