The Minister of Health, Ogerta Manastirliu spoke in the Assembly about the pandemic situation in our country, explaining that the presence of new variants of the coronavirus has not yet been verified.
Manastirliu also spoke about the doses of Pfizer vaccine that are expected to arrive today in our country as well as those of AstraZeneca, which are expected to be used to vaccinate teachers.
Manastirliu: Worldwide, the virus has affected more than 1140 million people and caused more than 2.5 million fatalities. The UK continues to be closed and this is the third closure. France also has drastic measures to close bars and restaurants and has registered 12,000 infections a day despite the measures. In this case, we should not have the illusion that the virus is disappearing.
The presence of new variants also conditions the pandemic measures. The presence has not been verified yet, but we have suspicions that new variants are circulating and the speed of spread makes it difficult to control the pandemic if it is not accompanied by the cooperation of every citizen.
Vaccination of the population is our common goal. We are vaccinating every day and at a pace. Today we have more protected lives of doctors in hospitals while the combined vaccination for ages +80 is continuing.
Today we are waiting for the next amount of Pfizer contract to follow, 15,210 vaccines will come. Vaccination will continue and we expect from the Covax instrument that 14,440 AstraZeneca vaccines will arrive with which we will start the vaccination calendar giving priority to teachers in order to have a good progress in educating children and protecting teachers.
