The Sunny Hill Festival will take place in Tirana, changing its location from Prishtina for the first time, since its establishment in 2018.
The reason, according to the founder of the Dukagjin Lipë festival, is the numerous delays caused by the lack of response and the final decision to allocate space for the festival.
He has expressed this in a letter addressed to President Vjosa Osmani, Prime Minister Albin Kurti, government ministers and the mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama. According to him, this delay was three years.
Dukagjin Lipa has claimed that the space required by him for a period of 99 years, which would also serve as the festival house, would be transformed to meet the conditions required by world-class performers.
This is about the use of a plot of 17 hectares for 99 years, in the village of Bernica e Poshtme.
The mayor of Prishtina, Përparim Rama, said that the Kurti government is to blame for this. The latter has vetoed that this requested space not be given to the Festival.
Përparim Rama stressed that the relocation of the Festival would bring great losses for Kosovo.
“The Government of the Republic of Kosovo, by delaying the decision-making process of legality, has tried to interfere in the will and integrity of the majority assembly members of the Municipal Assembly of Prishtina,” Rama said in a Facebook post.
The Ministry of Local Government, on the other hand, blamed the municipality of Prishtina for submitting incomplete documentation.
Immediate was the reaction of Prime Minister Edi Rama “Dua Lipa and her guests will illuminate the nights of the capital with their splendor” – he wrote while publishing the news of the festival’s expansion in Tirana.
This third edition will be held from 4 to 7 August in Tirana. Tickets are now valid for the new location and last minute.
Dukagjin Lipa added that if Kosovo institutions rent the land, the Festival will return to Pristina in 2023.
