The first plane to send asylum seekers from the UK to Rwanda will not depart tonight.
A Home Office source said the plane, which was set up near a Defense Ministry runway at Boscombe Down in Amesbury, would not depart due to “last-minute interference by the European Court of Human Rights”.
Earlier this evening, it was confirmed that the two individuals to be sent to the East African country had been delayed from leaving the UK following recent measures by lawyers.
It was understood that the European Court, which issued an interim emergency measure blocking the release of an Iraqi prisoner to be deported, was considering a number of further requests.
A total of seven individuals are believed to have boarded the flight before successful interventions were made.
