Banks require setting a ceiling on cash payments for purchases by consumers to boost online payments.
At the forum of the Association of Banks for digitalization against physical money, its head Bleda Shella said that legal arrangements are needed to reduce the circulation of cash, while requesting access to the services of the e-Albania platform.
But despite the efforts and investments, government officials have issued criticisms of the banking system, adding that it is not following its pace in digitizing services.
The high level of cash is one of the biggest challenges for the economy. According to the data of the Bank of Albania, the money circulating outside the banking system reached record figures in April, at 3.5 billion euros, the highest level recorded in two decades.
