As the pandemic continues to cause economic damage in many sectors, hotel and tourism operators say a second shutdown would be fatal for them.
“The tourism sector is the most affected since the beginning of the pandemic and another closure would have a negative impact as we are now taking measures to increase staff and prepare for the coming season and a second closure would stop this process in continuity and would hinder for the entire season.”
The inability to travel normally, as well as insecurity and fear for health, are counteracting the desire and need to rest of many people.
“We have an increase in interest from both Albanian and foreign agencies for the season, but they have remained in the context of unconfirmed requests due to uncertainty about the opening of borders and measures to be taken by each government for protection from covid -19 and therefore we have no guarantee for season reservations, which remain within the interests.”
Amid rising numbers of daily infections and increased rumors of another closure or tougher anti-covid measures, no one can predict the course of this year’s tourist season, on which the incomes of thousands of families across the Adriatic coast depend.
“We hope that the measures that will be taken will affect the reduction of the number of infected so that the opening of the season will come with a release of measures in all sectors.. ”
