Danish police say they have arrested eight people who took part in a protest against isolation in Copenhagen on Saturday evening.
Organized by a group calling itself the ‘Black Men’, the protest gathered around 1,200 people in the Danish capital, and is the first since the government announced last week that it would extend anti-covid restrictions.
Police said the protest was largely peaceful but eight people were arrested for arson use cartridge and unacceptable behavior.
Initially about 600 people started the demonstration but the crowd grew to about 1200 late in the evening, in the square in front of the town hall. Denmark, which has been under partial isolation since late December, announced last Wednesday that it would ease some restrictions but keep most of them in place despite opposition protests.
While the Danes will be able to visit several shops and participate in small sports activities from Monday, but many restrictions have been extended until April 5, including the closure of bars, restaurants and higher education institutions and middle.
The number of infections in Denmark has dropped significantly in recent weeks, but the rate of infection with the so-called British variant of the coronavirus, which is more easily transmitted, remains a source of concern.
