The President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, said that despite the challenges posed by the new coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), Turkey continues to build important infrastructure projects.
“As we plan and carry out our investments, we always have our people in mind. “Thinking about what our people and state need, we have implemented many projects,” Erdogan said in a video conference at the opening ceremony of the Kızılcahamam-Çerkeş tunnel. He stressed that the roads that were built in previous years, are not only for the transport of people and goods, but is also a matter of the future.
“The increased use of means of transport, from our airports to high-speed trains, is certainly the result of the expansion of our transport network. “Thanks to transport networks, which complement each other, we look to the future with much more confidence in terms of development and economic infrastructure,” said Erdoğan. He noted that the facilitated transport of people and goods further contributes to the overall progress, development and growth of each part of Turkey.
“In the last 18 years, we have been engaged in all transport networks, from land, air to rail and sea. We have increased the length of our separate roads to 28,000 kilometers, enabling easier transportation from west to east and from north to south. “Our historical and natural beauties have become today flooded destinations with hundreds of thousands and millions of visitors,” said the Turkish president. He stressed that thanks to the developed infrastructure, the country is on its way to becoming one of the most important centers of production and trade in the world during the process of reshaping the global, political and economic order.
“In the past, industry and trade were concentrated only in certain regions and cities of our country. “Today we have reached such a level that each of our 81 cities can benefit from the opportunities offered to them, including the ease of transportation and the benefits of raw materials and labor,” said Erdoğan. He noted that the Turkish authorities will achieve all the goals set by 2023 and that they will make the country one of the 10 largest economies in the world, adding that they will raise the country’s standard to the level it deserves, noting that they are constantly investing in transportation and many other areas.
“Infrastructure is an important element of development, from transport to energy. “But it is also important that this infrastructure is used, contributing to further production, employment and growth,” Erdoğan said.
