The fires on the island of Sazan continue to be active, even after three days, while from the city of Vlora is clearly visible the cloud of smoke coming from the island.
The fire has taken on great proportions also aided by the wind blowing from the north.
Dozens of centuries-old pines have been burned and continue to burn. The Armed Forces last night fought with flames supported by ADZM, but extinguishing the fire was impossible.
An obvious danger on the island are the remaining ammunition which can explode from the fire.
Today the fires continue and it is expected that firefighters will leave for the island of Sazan. As can be seen from the images taken from the city of Vlora, the island is surrounded by a fog of smoke and it is clear that fires are active.
Recall that the island of Sazan is home to seven species of amphibians, three of which are rare. The island also has 15 species of reptiles, 13 of which are also rare.
Until the flames are extinguished and the waste ammunition is cleared, the island of Sazan will be closed to tourists.
It is suspected that the cause of the fires in Sazan is the irresponsibility of vacationers who go with small vehicles and without permission, light fires for their food, while on the island of Sazan there are only four soldiers monitoring the entire area and this is impossible.
Meanwhile, regarding the fires, the Ministry of Defense has reacted, which indicates that the work for extinguishing the fire on the island has resumed, but the situation continues to be critical.
