Jürgen Stock has urged member states to track down their arms shipments that are flooding into Ukraine, saying they will be part of the secret economy when the war is over.
Head i Interpol said the weapons sent there since the launch of the russian attack in february will end up in the dark global economy as well as in the hands of criminals.
Stock said that when the conflict ends, these tools will fill the global market for heavy weapons and encouraged Interpol member countries, especially those that are sending weapons, to work and cooperate in their pursuit.
“When weapons are silenced in Ukraine, illegal weapons will be heard. We know this from many other theaters of conflict. “Criminals have even now started talking about them, as a potential object of benefits,” Stock argued.
“Criminal groups try to take advantage of these chaotic situations and the availability of weapons, even those used by the military. This is because they will be the subject of bargains in the dark markets, creating other challenges. “No country or region can resolve this issue in isolation, as they operate globally,” he said.
Stock added: “We can expect an influx of weapons into Europe and the world. “We must be alarmed as we expect these weapons to be trafficked not only to neighboring countries but also to other continents.”
He urged Interpol member countries to use the data to “track and track” shipments.
Ukraine’s western allies have been sending weapons of various sizes and types since the start of the war three months ago, writes britanikja TheGuardian.
US President Joe Biden announced this week that the US will supply Kiev with advanced weapons and ammunition systems.
But even after the U.S. withdrawal last year from Afghanistan after nearly 20 wars, large quantities of often sophisticated military weapons were left behind and fell into the hands of the militants.
Stock added in his speech in Paris that the conflict in Ukraine has led to the theft of large quantities of fertilizers, as well as to counterfeiting of agro-chemicals.
