Some called it “The day the masks fell”, some called it “Freedom Day”, because for the first time in 594 days all over Greece the masks that were forcibly kept indoors were removed, as a measure against Covid 19.
At least until September 15, citizens will be able to enter without them in all public service offices, supermarkets, various shops, shopping centers, etc., without the risk of receiving a fine.
Exceptions are health care facilities, hospitals, clinics or elderly care institutions, as well as urban public transport (metro, electric trains in Athens, buses and trams where the mask must be worn.
While in public transport buses between cities, where passenger seats are numbered, as well as in air transport the use of the mask is no longer required.
As far as schools are concerned, pupils and students can attend classes without a mask, but it will be required only during the school season exams. It is currently mandatory to use it on boat trips, until a new recommendation.
However, experts advise that indoors where there are many people, especially the elderly, should wear the mask.
With a high number of deaths of 29,857 people since the beginning of the pandemic, for the first time in almost 11 months, Greece recorded in the last 24 hours less than 10 deaths from covid- 19, 4026 new infections, while the number of intubation has decreased to 130.
