At least 11 people have died and 20 are missing after Hurricane Agatha hit southern Mexico, causing dangerous flooding and landslides.
Governor Alejando Murat said the rivers came out of their banks and abducted people at home, while the other victims remained under mud and stones.
Murat said the deaths appeared to have been concentrated in a number of small inland towns off the coast.
But he said there were also reports of three children missing near the Huatulco resort.
“There were basically two reasons for the deaths. “There were rivers coming out of the bed and on the other hand there were a lot of landslides.” said Murat.
Weather forecasters expect the reduction of tropical hurricane Agatha – which arrived in Mexico on Monday as a storm bringing heavy rain to South Florida in the coming days.
