The Kremlin has accused the United States of deliberately throwing gasoline on the fire after Washington said it would supply Ukraine with advanced missile systems.
“Such supplies” do not encourage Kiev to resume peace talks, Russian spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, adding that Washington wanted to “fight Russia.”
The United States has agreed to provide precision-guided missiles that can reach targets up to 70 km (45 miles) after receiving assurances that the weapons would not be used to strike targets inside Russia.
Ukrainian President Zelensky has said his country “does not intend” to do so.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said the planned shipment of these new weapons to Ukraine increases the risk of the US withdrawing into direct conflict with Russia.
“This is unprecedented, this is dangerous,” he said.
