Police in Missouri have fired shots at a woman of color who was pregnant and suspected of being involved in a car robbery.
“They shot him!” Oh God, they shot him! ” was heard saying a witness in the footage filmed after Saturday morning’s attack in Kansas City.
Police later confirmed about the network KCTV that 26-year-old Leonna Hale, was shot by officers who came for an armed robbery around 8 p.m.
Missouri traffic police said the male driver had left when they stopped the car while Hale was also shot after attempting to leave.
Witnesses to the incident said that before leaving the woman had raised her hands to show the officers that she was not carrying anything with her.
The witness, who gave her name only as Shédanja, told the local network that the victim had told the officers that she could not lie on the ground because she was pregnant, according to the daily. Kansas City Star .
“She was cooperating with the authorities but got scared and started running, so they shot her… this is not right,” the woman was heard saying in her video from the scene.
“I remember seeing her on the ground and freezing,” she said, adding that all three of her sons who saw her were traumatized.
