Israel has told the United States it is responsible for the killing of an Iranian Revolutionary Guard colonel in last week’s assassination attempt in Tehran, writes the British daily Daily Mail.
Colonel Saiad Khodai was killed Sunday by assailants on a motorcycle as he sat in the car outside his home in Tehran.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has vowed to take revenge for the assassination, while the Revolutionary Guards blamed “elements of global arrogance”, referring to the United States and its allies as Israel.
Yesterday the American daily New York Times wrote based on the intelligence communications that Israel has informed the US that it is responsible for the murder.
The “source” who spoke to the newspaper on condition of anonymity said that Israel had told the US that the assassination was an attempt to warn Iran to stop covert operations of the foreign wing of the Revolutionary Guard.
Iranian media described Khodai as a member of the Revolutionary Guard Quds Force.
Earlier it was reported that the colonel was known in Syria, where Iran has supported the government there during the 11-year war.
Thousands attended the funeral of the slain official in Tehran on Tuesday.
Khodai’s assassination comes at a time of negotiations between Iran and international powers over the resumption of the 2015 nuclear deal, which have reportedly been suspended since last month.
