An inexplicable optical illusion has left witnesses stunned as it showed a giant ship that appeared to be “floating” in the air off the British coast.
The bizarre image showed a transport boat in the waters near the village of Coverack in Cornwall in the north of England that seemed to be hovering above the horizon.
The photos were taken by many witnesses as well as by photographer Martin Stroud who posted them commenting: “Here is a flying ship! Nice day to visit Coverack. ”
Despite the ghostly appearance, the effect has been given the explanation ‘Fata Morgana’ (Morgana Supplement), which by some researchers is explained by the fact that it occurs when the color of the sea exactly coincides with that of the sky above it.
The ship appears to be ‘flying’ in a process of dissipating the light spectrum, according to the theory of the reflection of cold air located near the sea, with the warmest air located above it.
But flat-earth theorists have adopted the phenomenon as another ‘proof’ of their ideas.
The legend of “Fata Morgana” comes from the Italian folklore of the Arthurian era of the witch Martha La Fay.
According to superstition she creates fake castles and islands with her mirages, to entice sailors to approach their death.
Fata Morgana is also the source of some other strange mirages.
And in fact despite the explanations spread on the network, many users on social networks were amazed and horrified by the photos
Andy Wootten-Williams wrote: “This is terrifying me.”
While Stella Lumyou said, “What business is the boat in the sky?”
Even last year a similar image was captured in this part of England by David Morris.
BBC meteorologist David Braine at the time described the photo as a “superior image”, which is more commonly seen in the Arctic but “very rarely” in Britain.
The superior image means that the figure is seen above the location of the real object, again with the justification of the mass of cold and warm air beneath it.
In some cases the opposite of the phenomenon has been reported, which has been called “temperature inversion”.
