Russia plans to build and deploy about 50 new Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of nuclear strikes by the end of the fall, said Dmitry Rogozin, director general of the Russian space agency Roscosmos.
The missiles will be produced in the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk, he told Russian media.
Russia conducted the first test launch of a new-generation Sarmat rocket at the Plesetsk space port in northern Russia in April.
The Sarmat has a range of 18,000 kilometers and can be equipped with nuclear warheads. This would allow Russia to achieve worldwide targets by launching missiles across the North or South Pole.
The first Sarmatians will be stationed in Krasnoyarsk Territory. President Vladimir Putin used a missile launch in April to threaten the West in the context of the Russian war in Ukraine.
