The Ukrainian parliament has approved a bill banning symbols of the Russian occupation, including those containing the letters Z and V, MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak told the Telegram.
Zheleznyak noted that the document included President Zelensky’s proposals, which he presented when he vetoed a previous bill passed on April 14th.
The new version of the law expands the range of cases when the display of symbols is allowed, namely in museums, libraries, scientific works, textbooks and so on, according to our colleagues at BBC Monitoring.
The new bill, howeverbans the creation of NGOs that use Russian symbols of war and whose activities are aimed at spreading war propaganda and undermining Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The letters “Z” and “V”, which do not exist in the Russian alphabet, are widely used to symbolize support for Russia’s occupation of Ukraine. They are used to mark Russian military vehicles on the battlefield.
