Prime Minister Edi Rama has given an interview to “Corriere della Sport” regarding the first European final that will be played in our country, that of the Conference League between Rome and Feyenoord, which will take place on May 25 at “Air Albania”.
Rama has said that everyone in Tirana will cheer for Rome, as he has expressed that he has an Italian spirit. He emphasizes that this final will have a great impact on the image of Albania in the world and this thanks to the construction of a stadium that a few years ago was just a project on paper.
Full interview:
Prime Minister, this final is a great opportunity for Albania…
Raman: It’s true. In terms of image, it is a sensational event. But for us it is also a pride to wait for this final. Until a few years ago, our national team could not play in Tirana because it had an old stadium that did not meet international standards. Now the capital is hosting a European final for the first time.
What atmosphere do you breathe a few days after the match?
Raman: Unbelievable. And it will be hotter and warmer from now until Wednesday. We will be at his height.
There are security concerns, with many Italian and Dutch fans arriving without tickets.
Raman: We organized. Those who can not enter the stadium will be able to watch the match in the two fans reserved for our guests. I asked the police in Rome and Rotterdam for help, everyone is trying to provide support.
Tirana, even in its mandate as mayor, has evolved a lot in recent decades…
Raman: We are experiencing a period of great development, after the terrible fading of the communist era and the urban chaos that followed. Everyone who comes to visit us is surprised and wants to return to Albania.
Is it true that you support Juventus?
Raman: Yes, since I was a child. But now that Roma are run by Mourinho, it’s hard for me to choose. I was fascinated by him when he was at Inter, so much so that at the time he made me betray Juventus a bit… Let’s say I am a Juventus player from Mourinhano. The truth is that I am not a football expert. I am more interested in coaches: from them I can learn charisma, leadership, the ability to manage a team.
Then on Wednesday Roma wins…
Raman: I think Feyenoord has less chances to get the cup, so to speak ët The Dutch will play away from home, because Tirana is a small Roma. All Albanians will cheer for the Romans.
And maybe for Marash Kumbulë, who is Albanian?
Raman: I do not know him personally, but everyone here speaks well of him. And it is not a trivial thing in Albania for everyone to agree. Marashi is our flag and is a strong player. He was very good at making José change his mind, gradually gaining space.
What would you recommend to “his” Juventus to become great again?
Raman: If I could give you a piece of advice, I would become a member of the association of well-known coaches you have in Italy… But what happened before seemed abnormal to me, meaning You always win.
Allegri?
Raman: A great one. But just as big was the bet to bring him back to Juve. Reproductions are always complicated.
What do you remember from your past in basketball?
Raman: I was a boy with long limbs. I played like a pivot even though I’m 1.98 tall because there were no giants here: we were considered the Chinese of Europe (laughs, ed). I too came to the national team at the age of twenty, but stopped early because I was suffering from asthma: the races were not the best. But the experience helped me because it taught me the importance of team play.
From there your passion for painting was born. Your office is full of paintings and drawings.
Raman: Leaving the sport I discovered that I enjoyed painting. Since 1991, when the communist regime fell, I have started traveling around the world.
Who is Mourinho of art?
Raman: Paolo Uccello. To me he is the god of painting. Most modern of all moderns.
