A British father of two has reportedly left his wife of ten years after falling in love with a 22-year-old Ukrainian woman whom the family had taken home to “save him from the war”.
29-year-old Tony Garnett and his partner Lorna, 28, took home refugee Sofiia Karkadym in early May, but within 10 days their seemingly happy marriage broke up after the man left with the refugee.
The man from Bradford in the north of England who works as a security guard, already says that he has fallen in love with the 22-year-old and that he will spend his life with her.
Sofia, who hails from Lviv in western Ukraine, says she “liked” Tony as soon as she saw him and that they are now “living their love story”.
Although he admits that Lorna is in pain, Tony says that he “knows that the connection with Sofia is right”.
The family had taken Sofia to do “their part” to help the refugees, while Tony tells The Sun. that he quickly became attached to her, and even his two six- and three-year-old daughters liked him.
Tony, who speaks the Slovak language he speaks to the Ukrainian, says the situation left his wife unaware of what was happening.
“At first we had a good time but then I saw that Lorna was becoming jealous and angry with her,” says Tony, adding that then Sofia went to the gym with him and when they were at home they became more and more physically close.
“When we were at home we found reasons to touch or collide with each other. “Although in the beginning it was innocent, debates started to arise.”
Lorna had rightly asked for a solution to the uncomfortable situation until the debate had come to the point of the Ukrainian leaving the house.
Tony says that something was burning in him and he replied to Lorna: “If she leaves, so do I.”
So the young couple went to Tony’s parents house as they are now looking for an apartment for themselves.
He justifies that everything happened spontaneously, even though his wife seems to have a different opinion.
“We did not plan this and we did not want to hurt anyone,” said the father of two.
